First of All, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody!!

Everybody tends to agree that 2008 was really a bad year for most people, whether it was financially, health related or just the general spirit of that year... 2009 looks bleak for investors but I think we might all end up being surprised of the outcome...

Yes, been back to Montreal for the holidays... outside the gloomy days, icestorms and the -16C temperature. But overall it's been great seeing everybody!! Especially since I felt my departure was a bit rushed! Sometime I feel a bit shameful of not having enough time to see everybody but at one point the only thing you can do is your best and that's it!

I know I whine a lot about Montreal when I talk about it, but there are many good things about it despite its weather.

1st - Food in Montreal compare to Hong Kong is amazing, sometime I'm seriously questioning the quality of the food I eat in HK, whereas in Montreal it's several time better! Of course I'm aware that I grew up there and that my view is purely subjective but then again isn't it the whole point of this blog?

2nd - The people in Montreal are friendlier and a lot less self-centered than anywhere else I have been before. People are polite, they wait in line, they help old people or disabled people, and they dont push people in the subway just because they are too lazy to come to work in advance in the morning.

3rd - Everything here just make sense, the shop organized in a coherent fashion and they are full of stuff that you might need! Stores are big and goods are really cheap in comparison !

4th - The roads are wide, building are spacious and there's not much people around so you dont wait anywhere if you go to the bank (unless they are giving out welfare check) or any normal restaurants!!

But I'm glad to finally go back to Hong Kong!! Resume my life with my amazing bamboo and my 1 1/2 apartment!!! Law school is really a great part of my life and way more interesting than I could have hoped, so I'm really thrilled to start this new semester!!!

The road back will be long haha, Montreal => Washington => New York => Tokyo => Hong Kong

At least everything will be by plane so I can't really complain!!!!

I have to go start packing for now and slowly prepare this frozen scenery for a more hospital climiate :o)

Ni Hao, ni hao ma?

Hello everybody!

It's been indeed a long time since I wrote here. Life is busy, that sums it up pretty well. Assignments are coming in, only 5 weeks left for the 1st semester! It's amazing how time is flying so fast ! Been here already for two months now! Law school is really great, after 4 years of economic theories, it is really refreshing to be doing something that has real life, day-to-day, application! Also I've started to learn mandarin, it's a bit easier (at least for now) than I had expected, I guess trying to learn cantonese two years ago scared me off a bit, but now I have more interest (personal and profesional) to learn. Hong Kong is still warm around 30C even though we are almost at the end of October! Hopefully we'll get to see drop in temperature sometime soon, I'm getting tired of sweating around in HK.

Today I went to Shenzhen in mainland China! It's really amazing how much everything has improved in less than 2 years! It's becoming very modern, you could have sworn that your werent in the PRC anymore, which is quite an amazing feat in itself! It's really strange how different it still is from Hong Kong, you get a very different feeling even though most shops are similar and the language is most of the time the same. I've posted a small video and some pictures of the Dongmen area, which is the shopping district of Shenzhen!

Hello Everybody!

I know, I know, it's been a really long time since I wrote on my blog! Been back in Hong Kong for ever just a month now! Everything has been going to an incredible pace: friends, law school, and daily life are all taking huge chunks of time which I must say are not easy to manage yet... but I'm slowly getting there! I finally found my apartment after 3-4 weeks of intense research in the most expensive city on earth for the housing market (at least according to last month's Time magazine). So now, I'm enjoying my amazing 1 and 1/2 in the middle of a district known as Prince Edward which is really great considering the apartment market in HK. I feel like I have finally arrived, hard to describe the feeling but I just feel I've been adrift in the past few weeks, now things are looking up so HK is starting to be more exciting! The weather is pretty bad though, it's very very very very humid and warm... on most day the temperature can reach 35-36C (up to 48C if you count the humidity index!!!) So it's pretty intense and it's draining most of my energy each time I go outside. Autumn has started which mean that the weather will get colder (well by colder I mean similar to early June in Canada). Law school is really interesting, way more interesting than I would have imagined, hopefully my motivation will remain the same :o) I'll try to post some more pictures as soon as I can. For now, I got to go to bed... Tomorrow another crazy week is starting !

Hey guys!

Long time since I've posted anything new on my blog.... 2 weeks and half remaining... everything seems to be so unreal... I'm slowly getting prepared. I'm still fighting with the loan and bursuary bureau and I have yet to have a definite answer regarding the whole thing. Luckily my friend Laurence got me to think about taking a student loan at a Bank and now I feel a whole lot safer money wise. I'm really wondering how everything is going to be... if my program will suit me, if HK will be as great as I remember it. It's hard to explain that I dont want it to be the same but human mind is always using memories to build up the anticipation. So yes, I dunno how it's gonna be, everything is coming really fast and I have yet to realize the new challenge i'm undertaking. Let's see how the Honky in Hong Kong will do for this new year, shall we? It's all confusing, frightning, exciting at the same time, and the only thing I can do is to try not to freak out by overthinking everything. There's a great deal of uncertainty in everything, the more you are willing to risk, the higher the yield. Of course this is a bit dramatic, HK isn't another planet, or a definitive path that must lead to sucess but rather just a chapter, not necessarily an important one. I need closure with HK, with last year and I need to start a life for myself in HK... If I'm not able to do so, I might as well come back to Montreal.

So ready or not, Hong Kong, here I come... I dunno where it's gonna take me, but at the end of the day I'm sure I will have made the right choice.

So to all my HK friends who are reading this, be ready, because I'm ready to attack everything that will be thrown at me :o)

Hello everybody!

I'm glad to be finally back on the web !! The past four weeks have been pretty hectic in general, moving out to my mum's place, spending time dealing with bureaucracy and worrying a lot about whether I would get the student loan for Hong Kong. Anyway things are starting to look better now, my student visa application has just been approuved and the waiting period is almost over to see if my program will be indeed recognized by the Quebec government... So, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that everything will be fine... maybe that's too optemistic but I have no other choice than wait and wonder. I'm thinking about going to NYC really soon to meet with one the great girl I have come to know in the past year! If she can't make it, I don't mind going there on my own and go sightseeing for a weekend... It's funny that New York is 8 hours away from Montreal and before this year I never actually consider going because I never stopped to think that this city had anything worthwhile to see... Outside of thinking about school, and slowly preparing myself to leave Montreal, there isn't much going on for me this summer.

I've included here some pictures I took last week when a friend of mine from NYC came to visit Montreal with her boyfriend. These are pictures from "Festival International de Jazz de Montreal" which is one of the biggest outdoor music festival in the world. Each years I go there when I can, I just like to walk around and see the crowds... It's really a well planned festival which is growing in popularity each years.

I guess this is one of the official mascots of the festival. Meow!

Les Douzes Travaux de Francis

Greetings everybody!

The past week has been an emotional roller coaster. First finding out after 1 year of planning (and 8 weeks from departure) that my program is not recognized by the Quebec government was a bit difficult to digest. Luckily, even though it looked a bit bad in the beginning, it's supposed to be a very straight forward procedure since the university is already recognized and that I'm the first Quebecois to go there.

Between that and fighting with clueless clerk at the faculty of Law in HK, I'm trying not to go crazy over all the stuff I have to finish before I leave. It really feels like Les Douzes Travaux d'Asterix, I guess most of you guys don't know what I'm refering to. Basically, its mock-up version of the twelve extraordinary tasks that Hercules needed to complete in order to prove that he was worthy of being a god. I feel that I somehow need to prove that I'm worthy to go back and that the whole ordeal is just a test to see if I measure up to the challenges up ahead. Tonight is also my last night in my apartment, it would maybe be a sad moment except that I have no special memory about this place. There's only 60 days left before I go back to HK, I don't know what kind of challenges still lie up ahead but I feel I've been through the most frustrating part, so everything should be smooth from now on... i hope...

Motion in the Ocean

I decided to call this post "Motion in the Ocean" because I feel that my life has suddenly switched from being extremely calm to extremely busy. I guess it has to be expected, especially when you are moving (litterally) to the other side of the world...

A lot has happened during the last month. Me finally graduating is major change, has I'm no longer bound to live in Montreal just so I can finish my education; the world is now mine to play with. Seems I've spent all my life thinking and working toward being an adult and now that I'm there staring at the choices and possibilities that this world is offering me, I'm finding myself to be at a crossroad in my life. Seems as we get older the main difference is in the question we ask ourselves. I guess it's true when they say it's more in the questions than the answers themselves.

Also, I had to say goodbye to Raissa AKA the Mexican girl. I have been a bit sad over her departure. Dont get me wrong, I have had to say goodbye to a lot of people in my life so I'm pretty much used to it... but I guess some people are harder to forget than others. Without sounding like a cliche, I feel it's hard to explains what she meant to me. It's not that we had such a close relationship or that she had such a big impact but rather because the relationship was so simple in its own twisted way. I feel that she's larger than life in her own way, she has a great inner strengh and I guess that's what attracted to me to her at first. I will miss our discussions, our ackwardness, but mostly her boldness and her amazing smile. Saying "adios" to her felt like my days in Montreal were finally over and that I needed to move on to the next chapter of my life.

On the work side, everything is going great. I guess the secret to happiness at the workplace is mostly dependable on the people you work with. Some people just make the working day seems
less like a chore but rather like an interesting project where everybody has their part to play. Ubisoft and it's people have taugh me many things over the year, and I guess the irony is that I'm realizing it 2 months before my definitive departure.

It feels strange to think that in 2 months and 1 week I'll be back in Hong Kong. It seems that I have spent so much thinking about it that it doesnt seems like it's real anymore. Sometime I try to remember certain things about it but wonder if I'm making it all up in my mind. Everybody seems to want to meet me once I'm back in HK, I understand that it's quite normal but I dont feel like being rushed back into these relationships. People there sometime have a hard time to understand that moving from one continent to another is a great ordeal physically and mentally. I think I will bring some deception to some people but they will have to understand that I have to sort out my own life before going back into this hectic chaos.

That's all for me for today, I need to call CUHK once again to get them to sign a !&#@$^ of paper! Ahhh red tape bureaucracy in HK, how I missed you!

Long time since I wrote on this blog. Usually I wouldnt write anything because I don't think I'm living such an interesting life that needs to be utterly detailled on this blog. But seems Cat seems to think that I should write more, so I'm giving it a go...

Three months 'til i'm coming back to HK... it feels so strange to have been thinking about it for a whole year and starting to see the end of it coming so close. I still have some much to do, and so much uncertainties surrounding it that it's a bit hard for me to enjoy it a lot... Spend half of my time worrying about money and getting all the papers done on time for departure. Something wondering whether or not if I should stay and fight this moribund life with more strenght... but I guess if my heart isn't there at all there's no point in staying here, even if at time I feel a bit regretful that I can't do better with this life... Fortunetely, I always put myself in situation that I have no way of backing down, so my mood variations have no chances of make me change my decisions. I guess that's good, always to be going forward with projects but most of the time never living in present tense.

Music is something really important for me, as it defines the mood, the atmosphere of my life... So i'm always grateful when somebody introduces me to something new, something I like and that makes me feel different about life. Recently I started to listen to a band called McFly, quite upbeat songs, reminiscent of the beatles maybe with some over tone of the beach boys... Very pop but feels good to listen to simple melodies during summer time. I'm also waiting for the new Offspring album, Rise And Fall, Rage and Grace... The title sounds too much like my life, I'm really eager to listen to it!

Outside of that, not much is happening really. Spend my time on msn, dreaming of better days that are coming soon... The most funny thing is that people are prone to think that I'm coming back for a girl, or for the friends I have left behind... of course I miss them a lot but there's no girl or friend that would make me want to go back that much... At the same time I really enjoyed my time in HK, but I feel I have grown up since I left and want different stuff for myself. A different life, different priorities... It's hard to explain to people, because most of the time they feel as they know you... At time it's true, but I think rather that we get to know people in certain period of their life but it rarely give us a true insight on what really goes on in their mind...

What a shame, I have this really long weekend for myself, and I spend it watching some old movies and playing games on my roomate' xbox360... What a life... But still could be worst I guess... But HK is coming soon, only 3 months away! So better start doing something with this summer because time unfortunetely isn't going to comeback...

Haha, I hope you are glad cat, I finally wrote my first post in a long long time... feels strange to be pouring my thoughts on this blog... I guess if thousands of people are doing it each day, it must be normal...

Salut tout le monde !

Je viens de revenir d'un sejour d'environ 2 semaines en Chine et ca vraiment ete des vacances epatantes! J'ai voyage avec deux amis de mon universite a Hong Kong, un canadien (Broghen) et un norvegien (Henning) vous pouvez les voir sur la photo qui a ete prise a la gare de Beijing. Nous avons fait tout le voyagement par train a partir de Hong Kong, grosso modo nous avons voyager plus de 65 heures en train pendant tout le voyage. Juste pour vous donner une idee, ca prend 24 heures avec le train express pour se rendre de Hong Kong a Beijing! On s'est fait un itineraire assez simple, Beijing, Shanghai et Hangzhou reparti sur l'equivalent de 12 jours. J'ai inclu une map pour vous donner une idee de l'espace qu'on a parcouru en 2 semaines. Beijing est vraiment une drole de ville qui a des allures de guerre froide, beton gris, organization de la ville de facon vraiment geometrique, les rues sont vraiment vraiment large pour permettre les millions de velos de parcourir la ville sans gene. J'ai fait la blague que c etait pour garder la ville "Tank accessible" au cas ou il aurait a contenir une autre revolte! Shanghai est une ville vraiment tres belle, elle donne un peu l'impression de Hong Kong mais avec un design assez drole, la ville donne l'impression d avoir ete designer pour representer le "futur" mais avec la vision des annees 80... Tandis que Hangzhou est une ville spectaculaire, propre, avec beaucoup de verdure, c'est tellement beau propre et riche qu'on dirait pas qu'on se trouve en Chine... La ville semble etre plus Europeenne que d'autre chose! J'espere que vous allez apprecier les nouvelles photos! Merci encore une fois d'avoir pris le temps de lire mes textes :o) J'aimerais bien les faire plus long mais c est le temps qui me manque pour l'instant!

Bonjour a tous !

Je sais je sais, ca fait tres longtemps je n'ai pas ecrit mais c'est plus parce qu'il ne c'est pas passer rien d'interessant que j'aurais pu mettre sur le blog pour vous raconter. Le temps passe vraiment vite, au moment je vous ecris il ne me reste exactement que deux mois a passer a Hong Kong !

La semaine derniere je suis aller visiter la Coree du Sud, pendant une semaine j ai principalement visiter 3 villes soit Seoul, Incheon et Panmunjom (la zone demilitarisee entre la Coree du Nord et la Coree du Sud). La Coree est un endroit assez bizarre, l'impression qu'elle m'a donnee ironiquement c'est qu'elle est tout droit a mi-chemin entre la culture Japonnaise et la culture Chinoise... Meme l'apparence des Coreens semble etre un drole d'amalgame entre les Japonais et les Chinois. La partie la plus interessante du voyage a ete a mon avis la visite a Panmunjom. L'atmosphere de cette partie de la Coree semble etre quasi surrealiste dans un sens, on a quasiment l'impression que la guerre froide est encore omnipresente. La visite touristique organisee en partie avec les Nations Unies, est assez intense et n'est pas vraiment l'idee que beaucoup de gens ont d'un site touristique... Par exemple, il faut presenter son passeport au moins 3-4 fois pour passer les differents points de securite et ensuite il faut signer les documents officiels de l'ONU disant qu'on accepte la possibilite d'etre tuer par armes ennemies! Tout le voyage est hautement surveiller, des soldats nous escortent partout autour de la base militaire et doivent se retirer lorsqu'on se rend du cote de la Coree du Nord. Il y a des endroits qu'on ne peut meme pas visiter parce que les soldats disent ne pas etre en mesure d'assurer notre securite... Disons que la visite etait vraiment stressante, mais ca vraiment ete une experience incroyable de marcher sur le 38th parallel! A part de ca, beaucoup de temples, une visite au musee d'art contemporain et beaucoup de bouffe americaine ! C'est pas mal tout ce que j'ai le temps de raconter sur mon voyage de la Coree du Sud pour l'instant!

Le Brunei est vraiment un tout petit pays (350 000 habitants) qui se trouve en plein milieu de l'ile de Borneo. C'est un pays producteur de petrole tres riche mais en meme c est un pays Islamique tres tres conservateur, alors y a vraiment pas beaucoup d infrastructure en place... Je n'y suis pas rester assez longtemps pour avoir une perfaite image du pays mais disons juste que quand j etais la-bas y a quelqu'un qui a ete mis en prison pour 10 ans pour avoir fait entrer illegalement 5 caisses de bieres... Alors c'est pas trop la joie en terme de droit humains...

J'aime bien cette photo pour les couleurs, elle a ete prise apres avoir debarquer du taxi et de m'etre rendu compte que l'hotel ou j'avais fait ma reservation etait ferme pour la journee ! C'est toujours le fun quand ca arrive dans un pays etranger en plein milieu de nowhere avec des gens qui parlent pas anglais hehe :-)

Bonjour a tous, j’ai finalement décidé de prendre le temps d’updater mon blog question de donner des nouvelles avant le début du temps des fêtes et de mon départ dans le Sud-est Asiatique ! En même temps, ca devrait occuper ceux qui cherchent quoi faire et/ou qui ne veulent pas travailler ;-) J’ai décidé de faire une petite compilation de photos qui représentent assez bien ce qui sait passer durant les deux derniers mois ici a Hong Kong ! Je voudrais aussi en profiter en même temps pour souhaiter Joyeux Noel et bonne année a tous ! Vous souhaitant ce qu’il y a de meilleur pour la nouvelle année qui s’en vient !

C'est l'hivers aussi a Hong Kong... ouais disons que le terme hivers veut pas trop dire grand chose quand il fait un gros soleil tous les jours et qu'il fait en moyenne 18-20C! Le pire c'est
que les gens ici portent des manteaux d'hivers et des foulards alors qu'il fait 18-20C dehors !!!

November: Guangzhou Study Trip

Bonjour a tous!

Novembre a été vraiment un mois mouvementé dans tous les sens du mot. Plusieurs examens, dissertations et de présentations orales ! Malgré tout, j’ai un peu de temps pour voyager et visiter la capitale économique du Sud de la Chine, la ville de Guangzhou dans le cadre d’un voyage d’étude organisé par mon cours « experiencing China ». Pendant 4 jours nous avons visité divers types de NGO et groupe communautaire de façon avoir la réalité des problèmes de la Chine moderne. Ce voyage a vraiment été une belle expérience et j’ai beaucoup appris sur plusieurs sujets. C’est vraiment fou la différence entre Hong Kong et la ville de Guangzhou… la pauvreté est vraiment partout… Les gens nous dévisagent constamment parce que c est plutôt rare de voir des blancs dans ces coins la, Hong Kong reste assez cosmopolite je dirais, mais la Chine disons que les gens nous font sentir assez comme une minorité. Souvent ils nous dévisagent mais on ne sait jamais ce qu’ils pensent de nous vraiment… mais a chaque endroit qu’on visite on nous traite vraiment de façon spéciale… Un de mes amis et compatriote Canadien disait tout le temps qu’on nous traitait en Rockstar… et plus j’y pense plus je crois que c’est vrai. La ville de Guangzhou est quand même assez fascinante, mais c est une des villes les plus polluées au monde parce qu’elle est la plus grande ville manufacturière de la Chine, tout vient de cette ville ou bien des alentours alors tous la saleté retombe sur la ville.

Winter Trip Itinerary

Rebonjour à tous,

C’est un petit update rapide pour vous mettre au courant de l’itinéraire de mon prochain voyage qui aura lieu a la fin de ce semestre.

Le thème de ce voyage se veut à la fois académique (je travaille sur une étude de la productivité des pays de l’Asie du Sud et leur effet relatif sur reprise économique suite a la crise économique asiatique de 1997) mais aussi purement touristique (Ile de Borneo étant l’endroit que j’anticipe avec le plus d’enthousiasme!) mais en gros reflète le désir de vouloir connaitre le sud de l’Asie par l’exploration de ce que je juge être les plaques tournantes de ce fascinant territoire.

Salutation à tous !

Je suis désolé de ne pas avoir donné plus de signe de vie, mais la routine quotidienne et le rythme effarent qu’impose la vie a Hong Kong sont la cause de mon manque de discipline regardant les mise-à-jours de ce blog… Je vais très bien, la température ici est formidable, en moyenne elle se situe entre 24-31C à les jours avec un soleil ma foi assez omniprésent considérant l’approche de l’hiver… Beaucoup de gens vont encore souvent se baigner ou se prélasser au soleil durant le weekend sur les nombreuses plages disponibles a Hong Kong de façon a se déstresser du quotidien intense de cette ville constamment en mouvement !

Karaoke

Le weekend passé, je suis allé célébrer le 23ieme anniversaire d’une amie que j’ai rencontrée sur le campus. L’endroit se nomme CEO Neway Karaoke dans le district de Tsim Sha Tsui.

Le tout coute environ 10-12$ CAD, ce qui donne droit à un accès illimité au buffet (de qualité moyenne disons), deux consommations et la réservation d’une salle privée de Karaoke… C’est vraiment différent de l’idée que je me faisais du Karaoke… en fait c’est beaucoup mieux… L’idée d’un bar karaoke avec un stage, est beaucoup plus l’américanisation de ce phénomène… ici c’est plus une petite pièce qui peut contenir environ une vingtaine de personne avec des sofas qui longent la pièce et au centre se trouve un écran géant avec un système multimédia de sélection de chanson. De plus, il y a des petites tables pour mettre des assiettes ou des verres. L’ambiance est assez décontracte et le système audio est vraiment de bonne qualité. Il y a un répertoire de chanson assez varié, avec surtout des chansons cantonaises, ou des vieux hits américain de la fin des années 90. Mais ce sont des vieux classiques que tout le monde connais, alors c’est pour le mieux ! Ce fut une expérience vraiment intéressante, et assez cool même si il y avait beaucoup de chansons en cantonais qu’aucun ‘westerner’ ne pouvait chanter. Je me suis lancer sur le seul duo de la soirée avec un étudiant américain sur la chanson Don’t Stop Me Now du groupe Queen. Je crois qu’on va y retourner mais juste entre étudiants étrangers, parce que c est assez plate quand il y a seulement 3 personnes sur 25 qui savent chanter en cantonais et que la plupart des chansons jouées sont en cantonais J Ce qui est aussi très comique c’est que pour certaines chansons anglophones, les paroles ont été changées pour enlever les paroles vulgaires ou des expressions typiquement américaines… En somme, ce fut pour Camille un anniversaire vraiment mémorable, mais aussi un moment important a mes yeux dans mon acculturation de la culture asiatique…

Shenzhen (Ville de la Province de Guangdong en Chine)

Et oui, j’ai finalement traversée la frontière entre Hong Kong et la Chine pour la première fois hier… mais quelle expérience…! Je ne suis resté que quelques heures en raison de plusieurs technicalités, la majeure étant que ma carte de guichet de Hong Kong ne fonctionnait pas la-bas et que j’avais sur moi, juste assez d’argent pour rentrer à la maison à Hong Kong ! (J’aimerais remercier spécialement la Hang Seng Bank pour m’avoir presque mis dans de sérieux troubles). La frontière entre Hong Kong et la Chine se trouve à environ 45 minutes en train d’où j’habite, mais rien m’avait préparé a une telle différence entre les deux territoires (j’ai le gout de dire pays mais ce serait techniquement incorrecte). Juste pour donner un exemple concret, lorsqu’on doit remplir le formulaire des douanes à Hong Kong tout est facile, tout est logique, tout est propre et fonctionnel… mais lorsqu’on arrive en Chine c’est le chaos complet, pas d’indication, les casiers de papiers sont vides (il y a fallut que j’en ramasse un tout sale parterre…) et les crayons sont tous brises… C’est vraiment a ce moment que j’ai compris ce que Deng Xiaoping voulait vraiment dire par « One country, two systems », la différence est vraiment effarante entre une économie planifiée et une économie capitaliste. Les prix là-bas sont encore plus bas qu’à Hong Kong… (ce qui est assez logique mais le voir c’est vraiment déroutant) juste pour vous donner une idée un trio big mac chez Macdonald coute environ 16rmb ce qui équivaut grosso modo à 2$ canadien… Une autre différence notable est l’attention qu’on reçoit en tant que caucasien (blanc) là-bas… la plupart des gens nous dévisagent furtivement et semblent être beaucoup moins habitues de nous voir semble-t-il… Ca fait vraiment bizarre de se sentir une minorité visible, il est évident que c’est la même chose a Hong Kong, en terme de proportion, mais je n’ai jamais ressenti cela aussi intensément avant… Je ne peux dire ce qu’ils ressentent envers nous… mais j’ai souvent l’impression qu’ils nous voient comme un signe de dollar ($) lorsqu’ils nous aperçoivent… Les vendeurs sont vraiment agressants, ils vont même jusqu'à toucher les gens ou bien les suivre… Malgré toutes les différences déplorables, Shenzhen est un endroit de prédilection pour les gens de Hong Kong pour aller faire leur magasinage… les prix sont vraiment concurrentiels a tout ce que l’ont peut trouver à Hong Kong! La ville a une architecture assez moderne, urbaine mais avec des touches un peu étrange (quasi postmoderne regardez la photo !) En somme, la Chine s’annonce à être vraiment un autre monde, beaucoup plus différente de ce que j avais imaginé…

Petite annonce que le groupe Genesis s'est reformé et une tournée mondiale (et peut-etre meme un nouvel album prévu). La conférence de presse donnant toutes les informations concernant la reformation va se faire le 7 Novembre !

Cosplay et Musee

Bonjour a tous !

Il n'y a pas eu grand denouement depuis les deux dernieres semaines puisque nous avancons tranquillement ici vers la mi-session(deja!!) alors la quantite de travail commence un peu a se faire sentir !

Sortie Musee

Ce weekend puisque le temps etait plutot nuageux, j ai decide d aller visiter le Hong Kong Museum of History pour faire le plein de connaissances culturels sur l'evolution historique de la Peninsule de Kowloon et de l'ile de Hong Kong ! Le cout du billet d'entree est de 10hkd soit environ 1.40$ canadien ! Le musee quoi qu'assez petit (par rapport aux autres musees de la plupart des grandes capitales du monde) est tres moderne et est tres interessant. Le musee est divise en 8 sections qui divisent temporellement l'evolution geographique, ecologique, culturelle et sociale de l'Hong Kong moderne! En passant de la prehistoire, de l apparation de la premiere civilisation Yu, a l'invasion Europeenne, et termine par le retour de Hong Kong parmi la Republique Populaire de Chine! En somme, ce fut une experience interessante d'apprendre sur l'histoire de Hong Kong ! Surtout pendant la periode coloniale ou les anglais et les portuguais sont arrives sur l'iles et les environs aux milieux du 16ieme siecle ! Je connais pas grand chose a ce phenomene culturel... la seule chose que j ai compris c est que ce sont des filles qui s'habillent en personnages de dessin anime japonais... Le but ? J'en ai aucune idee, mais ca semble etre vraiment populaire puisque ca fait deux jours que le campus est rempli de filles habillees de la sorte.

C'est tout pour ce post, je dois continuer un travail sur l'evolution de Singapore depuis sa sortie de la federation de la Malaysie en 1965 !

Bruce Lee, Tsim Sha Tsui and Victoria Peak

Bonjour a tous !

Premierement, j'aimerais remercier tout ceux qui m'ont envoyer des bons commentaires et des mots d'encouragement !

Ce weekend je suis aller visiter le district de Tsim Sha Tsui a Kowloon et le district de Central sur l'ile de Hong Kong. Ensuite, j'ai pris le service de tram pour gravir le sommet du mont Victoria pour admirer une des plus belles vue surplombant la ville de Hong Kong. Malheureusement la photo ci-dessous ne lui rend pas justice, puisque les photos prises a l'aurore ont donne des resultats tres pauvres je trouve. (Mais j'ai le temps d'y retourner d'ici la fin de mon voyage pour en prendre d'autres, c'est a environ 30 min de chez moi)

Avenue of the Stars est la version Ho qui une copie du celebre Hollywood Walk of Fame aux Etats-Unis. J'ai pris quelques photos des monuments de chaque grandes stars de l'industrie cinematographique de Hong Kong ! J'ai decide d'afficher la photo de l'emplacement de Jackie Chan suite a la demande populaire :-)

J'ai recu quelques questions par email et je vais tanter d'y repondre le mieux possible:

Cout de la vie

Ici le cout de la vie est relativement tres tres bas. La nourriture coute pratiquement rien, en moyenne chaque repas coute environ 4-5 $ dans des restos normaux. Ici, il n'y pas de taxe de vente sur aucun produit alors tout est peu couteux en comparaison avec l'occident. Evidemment que les produits importes ne sont pas vraiment les deals du siecle mais les prix sont assez competitivement comparables. Les vetements des magasins locals sont vraiment vraiment cheap, deux paires de jeans pour 20$. A moins que vous cherchiez a acheter dans les boutiques Europeennes et Americaines, comme Mexx, Gucci, Esprit, Freedom, ici vous pouvez trouver des assez bons deals pour les souliers et les vetements en general. Pour ce qui est du prix des chambres d'hotel, je ne serais dire mais je vais tenter de m'informer ! En general, je dirais que tout est a moitie prix de ce que nous sommes habitues de payer au Canada. Alors comme vous pouvez le constater tout est vraiment peu dispendieux ici alors si vous etes interesses a venir a Hong Kong pendant mon sejour ici, n'hesitez pas a m'ecrire a priori je devrais avoir assez de place pour accueillir une personne !

Transport

Le systeme de transport en commun a Hong Kong est une merveille en soi. Ici le systeme de metro se nomme MTR qui est en fait un acronyme pour Mass Transit Railway. Le systeme est extremement rapide, efficace et tres ponctuel. Il dessert plus de 2.4 millions d'utilisateurs par jour ! Prendre le metro ici est vraiment toute une experience, il y a tellement de gens qui affluent dans toute sorte de direction a tout moment de la journee; c'est vraiment fou ! La chose vraiment suicidaire a faire est d'aller contre-courant du traffic pietonnier durant les heures de pointes... ca pourrait devenir une displine Olympique ou bien une categorie de sport extreme. Encore la, le cout pour utiliser le MTR est vraiment tres bas, surtout si vous possedez une carte octopus (c'est une carte electronique qui store une valeur, un peu comme une carte d'appel telephonique rechargable). Ca va de 60cents a 2$ dependemment de la distance voulu. Aussi, il est possible de prendre le Star Ferry pour traverser entre la peninsule de Kowloon et l'ile de Hong Kong. Le service est encore une fois tres rapide et vraiment pas cher, 30 cents pour une traversee de 10min sur la Pearl River de Tsim Sha Tsui a Central ! Il est donc possible de se deplacer tres facilement, rapidement, et de facon tres peu couteuse a Hong Kong!
